Windows Embedded Standard 7 Hands-on 2 day workshop

Summary
Day 1: Hands on Workshop where you gain experience with Windows Embedded Standard 7 and its tools via the official Microsoft curriculum. Bring a laptop with 20 GB of free HDD space, so that you can run the workshops hands-on, in a virtual environment.

Day 2: Bring along your own Embedded board/PC/HW, and run up an image on your hardware. This second day allows you to walk away with a running image, to fast track your project. Day 2 is less structured, and lets you build/troubleshoot at your own pace.

Target Audience
If you’re building a 32-bit X86 or 64-bit X64 based device with Windows 7, but would like better control over the operating systems image size, what features are included, and how to build an embedded image quickly. Ideally suited for: Digital Signage, Kiosks, Factory automation solutions, POS solutions, Test and Measure, and Monitoring and control devices.

Agenda - Topics covered in this two-day hands on workshop are:

  • Target Analyzer Probe (TAP),
  • Image Build Wizard (IBW),
  • Image Configuration Editor (ICE),
  • Windows PE Deploying a raw image to bootable media.
  • Distribution shares.
  • Packages and Templates Customizing the operating system image in both IBW and ICE
  • Adding features and services, customizing the user experience,
  • Configuring the Embedded Enabling Features (EEF's) such as the Write Filters to enable operation from solid state media
  • Adding third party drivers and applications
  • Configuring the image for remote access and security and cloning,
  • Tools etc, eg. ImageX and SysPrep.

Note: While this is a lot of content to get through, the idea is to share as much information as possible to help you understand what Windows Embedded Standard 7 can do. This means that if we spend more time on one topic, because the bulk of the audience is interested in that, we may not get to cover other topics.
